We have currently four major research topics in the Department of Primary Care Medicine as well as an endowed chair of nursing science
- Health services research in the primary care sector: This research focus is about access points to the health care system, strong primary care concepts and implementation possibilities in the Austrian healthcare system, care pathways, visualization of the challenges of primary care physicians in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, visualization of the voices of patients in the context of health care reforms (patient involvement). And last but not least, you will find the topic of antibiotic resistance in primary care and the related knowledge in the population under this reasearch topic.
2. The topic of diversity and reducing social inequality in primary care is closely related to the first topic. This research topic is dealing with how diversity can be strengthened in primary care settings and how social inequalities can be reduced. A special focus is on the international migration of health & care workers.
3. Postacute infection diseases and syndromes like post-COVID condition and ME/CFS: This focus is primarily on postacute infection syndromes and ME/CFS, although ME/CFS cannot be triggered by infectious diseases alone.
4. eHealth in primary care: What is the status quo, where are the challenges of primary care physicians with regard to eHealth and its frameworks (organizational, legal, financial). Especially the topic of video consultations, Artificial Intelligence, Large-Language-Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and HealthApps/DiGAs are currently in the focus of interest.
