Recap: Guest Lecture by Prof. Rafael Pérez-Escamilla on the Importance of the First 1000 Days

On 20 May 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Rafael Pérez-Escamilla from the Yale School of Public Health (USA) to the Medical University of Vienna for a public guest lecture. Under the title “How the First 1000 Days Shape Our Future”, the internationally renowned public health expert highlighted the crucial role of early childhood for long-term health and social development.

The lecture attracted significant interest from students, faculty, and professionals in medicine, public health, nutrition, and politics. Prof. Pérez-Escamilla presented evidence-based insights on the links between early nutrition, social inequality, and sustainable development, and emphasized the need for integrated policy measures to support families during this critical phase of life.
