Claudia Zimmermann holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Graz (Mag. rer. soc. oec., 2008) and an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention from the University of Oxford (2010). She completed her doctoral studies in Public Health at the Medical University of Vienna (Dr. scient. med., 2024). Her PhD thesis focused on suicide and other causes of death among physicians, which included the first register-based study on suicide rates of Austrian physicians and a comprehensive meta-analysis of physician suicide rates worldwide.

Claudia has a multidisciplinary background with expertise in intervention research, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and data analysis. She has gained extensive experience in teaching and research at the University of California, Berkeley, and at various departments of the University of Graz, including the Department of Sociology and the Center for Digital Teaching and Learning. Additionally, she has worked as a freelance consultant in the areas of evaluation and evidence-based teaching. While living in the UK, she has worked with various UK-based charities in the fields of refugee assistance (CARA), HIV prevention (Harm Reduction International), and paraplegia (Poppa Guttmann Trust).

She joined the Department of Epidemiology in March 2018 as a Research Coordinator. In 2026, she transferred to a Postdoc position in connection with the Vienna Prevention Project (ViPP), for which she serves as Program Manager. Her current research interests include public mental health and suicide, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and prevention research.
