Amelie Kurnikowski
Amelie Kurnikowski is a medical doctor currently enrolled in the PhD Program Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Medical University of Vienna. She entered through the competitive MDPhD Excellence Program during her medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna
For her doctoral thesis, she is investigating different aspects of chronic kidney disease and in particular, the role of diabetes mellitus in chronic kidney disease. As part of the WWTF funded project “Closing the loop in hemodialysis – a precision medicine approach”, she explores the proteome in patients with kidney failure on hemodialysis. Her main interest lies in the study of posttransplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) in kidney transplant recipients. Her recent work on diagnostic criteria in PTDM was published in the American Journal of Transplantation.
Previously, she also gained experience in qualitative studies (gender/sex aspects in chronic kidney disease, COVID-19).
