Program
Abstract
The rising demand for palliative care and the limited availability of health care resources necessitate decisions on funding, resource allocation, and intervention reimbursement. Such decisions call for evidence-based cost and outcome evaluations of alternative services and interventions. It remains unclear which available instruments can produce dependable and valid results for quality assurance, evaluation, and service planning within the palliative care setting. The PallPROMs study aimed to validate a core set of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) designed to support quality monitoring and economic evaluations in palliative and end-of-life care settings. Three PROMs were assessed: EQ-5D-5L, ICECAP-Supportive Care Measure (ICECAP-SCM), and Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale (IPOS). The validation involved assessing the psychometric criteria of these PROMs in addition to their feasibility, actionability, and correlation.
At this Science Lunch, Claudia Fischer and Elisabeth Saly will present insights and solutions identified through the PallPROMS study, offering a deeper understanding on feasibility, validity and barriers and facilitators of PROMs assessment in specialist palliative care units.
